Here are 10 safety tips when
using "Instant Tellers"
- TIP #1
When approaching the ATM, visually scan the area before getting out of your car. If you see anything that you think is suspicious (like someone standing around outside, or sitting in a car watching) but no one at the ATM - leave and find another ATM or return later.
- TIP #2
Take a companion along. Park close to the ATM in a well lit area and have everything ready before you get out of your car. Have your ATM card in your hand, know your PIN code, and have your deposit slip filled out. Be sure to lock your car when you get out of it (check those rear doors too) and keep your keys handy in case you have to get back into the car in a hurry.
- TIP #3
When waiting in line, wait well behind the person in front of you. If someone gets too close to you, ask them to move back. If they do not do as you have requested, leave and find another ATM.
- TIP #4
While using the ATM, use your body as a shield to block the view of other people by standing directly in front of it so no one can see you type in your PIN. You do not want people to see how much money you are withdrawing, or what your transaction is. When your transaction is completed immediately take everything with you - includes money, receipt, and your ATM card.
- TIP #5
Count you money in the safety of your car or home - not at the machine.
- TIP #6
If you use a drive-up ATM ensure that your doors are locked and your windows rolled up except for the one that you are using. Ensure that there is no one around or watching the area. Keep the car running, and look around you as you are doing your transaction. If someone starts to approach your car, cancel the transaction, and find another machine.
- TIP #7
Memorize your access code and do not write it down and carry it with you.
- TIP #8
Don’t use an access code that’s the same as other word’s or numbers in your wallet.
- TIP #9
Never tell you access code to anyone, and that includes a Bank Employee or the police.
- TIP #10
If you ever lose your ATM card, notify your bank or financial institution immediately.
