You can never be too safe!

Here are a number of Caution Zone "Personal Security" tips 

  • Stay in public places

  • Try to go to locations in a group if possible, particularly at night.

  • Walk with confidence and know where you are going.

  • Request an escort to and from your vehicle, particularly at night if possible.

  • If you are walking to your car or from your car to a residence, or other building, have your keys in your hand to assist your entry…may also be used as a weapon in an emergency.

  • Take a personal safety course.

  • Let other people know where you are going, when you plan to leave, and when you plan to return.

  • Dress appropriate to the surroundings that you are going to be in.

  • Always try to carry a cell phone.

  • Keep your purse close to your body.

  • Wear flat shoes if possible.

  • Consider taking a dog with you, the bigger, the uglier, the better.

  • Do not flaunt jewellery or expensive items of clothing, or otherwise attract attention.

  • Do not overburden yourself with packages.

  • Do not flash cash.

  • Always walk against traffic.

  • Be observant, avoid dark areas, short-cuts, cul-de-sacs, and suspicious persons. Stay near light and people at night.

  • Be prepared to flee potential problems. If you are apprehensive about anything, leave now. Consider carrying a whistle, and a flashlight. Weapons are not to be considered, and may be unlawful.

  • If someone in a vehicle stops and asks for directions, answer from a distance and do not approach vehicle.

  • If you are followed, - cross the street, vary your pace, change directions.

  • If in your vehicle, and someone may be following you, execute several right turns to verify, get to a main thoroughfare and stay on it, Note and record license plate number, and description of vehicle. 
    Drive to an occupied service station, fire hall, or police station and summons help.
